The Pentatonic Scale I

Course Description

The Pentatonic Scale (PS) consists of 5 notes (‘pende’ means 5 in Greek), as opposed to the Major Scale (MS), which contains 7 notes. The PS is easy to learn, easier than the MS and very useful in many different musical situations.
This course teaches you the Pentatonic Scale and its 5 shapes (or the 5 fretboard locations) on the guitar, which is usually the first step towards being able to play a solo. The fretboard can be divided into 5 shapes. If you can remember the shapes, you can play a solo.

Most guitarists wanting to play solos on a variety of tunes start by learning the Standard Pentatonic Scale. 

• 1. Learn the 5 individual shapes, one by one.
  2. Play all the shapes by heart or with visual clues as the final exercise.
  3. Take a solo with the Pentatonic Scale over a practice track as the final assignment, and E-mail your recording for feedback.
  4. Timeframe: It entirely depends on how much time you spend.
     If you practice a lot, i.e. 1 hour/day you should reach the outcome in about a week. If you practice less it could take up to a month. These are estimates and can vary from person to person.
